Time For A New Career
The up & down world of online affiliate marketing has just become too much for my stress level. I still want to work at home, so I’m looking into becoming a loan officer. I have lots of support from family and friends who are either loan officers, brokers or realtors, so I really think I can do this. I want to be the loan officer that people seek out because I’m not working in a stuffy bank atmosphere. If any of you out there are experienced and want to offer advice, I’m more than willing to absorb as much advice from around the country (and world) as I can get.
I found what looks like a really great loan officer boot camp, but it’s six weeks, in Atlanta, and appears to cost about $15,000. So, while it sounds great, even if I could afford it, living in Atlanta for six weeks probably isn’t an option. But hey, if I did, at least I know Helly & Alan and Nancy there, so I wouldn’t be totally isolated with a bunch of future loan officers.

Hey, that would be great! Come to Atlanta! You’ll have so much fun with us, 6 weeks will pass in no time. Bring pets!
If you work as a loan officer out of your home, do you really get to stay at home? Or are you in the car, on the road running from appointment to appointment only w/home as your base instead of a bank?

Hey, that would be great! Come to Atlanta! (Seriously, that’s exactly what I was going to say.) Do it! I know nothing about being a loan officer. Is it the same thing as a mortgage broker, where you hook people up to lenders?

Bring pets? Helly, where would we stay with four dogs, eight cats (one’s a foster), and seven parrots? I’d love to spend six weeks in Atlanta going to school, but I think the main problem is the approximately 15k for just the program. That doesn’t include a hotel or food or transportation.
And yes, you can really stay at home. I refinanced last year and my loan officer is in Texas. I love him, partially because he was willing to do pretty much the whole process through email - I talked to him on the phone maybe twice, briefly. The only time I needed to leave the house was to get papers notarized and dropped off at the PostNet place to mail them back. No stuffy banks, no one taking up extra unnecessary time with us having to meet somewhere. I think I may have had to sign one set of papers to finalize the process. It was at the building next to our closest Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (there’s only one semi close-by - maybe 15 miles away...so I don’t mind driving there occasionally) and only took maybe five minutes.
A mortgage broker is the person who works with the lenders. The loan officer is the person who works with the borrower, getting the paperwork filled out and finding the right loan for people.

I wanted you to stay with us, but okay, I see your point; we might be just a wee little bit crowded if everyone came. The biggest problem would be the big dogs because our yard’s not fenced. But you could stay at the infamous house next door! Trust me, no one would ever notice.

Wow, that’s a lot of money. It sounds like a nice lifestyle, though. I like the idea of being able to work at home - although I’m afraid I’m so lazy I would never get anything done. I would give myself two hour coffee breaks and take myself out to lunch all the time. Until the money ran out.
