The Unfortunate Case of the Spreading Numbness

I still haven’t heard from the doctor’s office regarding my lumbar injection.  Color me surprised!  So, I called them today at 4:44p - I got a recording, saying their office is closed and that their hours are 9am - 5p.  Hmm, forgive me for being picky, but isn’t 4:44p in between those times, therefore someone should’ve answered the phone?  I get it, I know no one wants to get stuck on a call that’s going to take them until after closing to finish, but when I worked for law firms and we had to put calls on the service, we actually waited until exactly closing time when we did it.  Sure, we always wanted to do it earlier, but that’s kind of unprofessional, right?

The reason I was convinced to call and check up on my injection was because today, for the first time, I’ve had some numbness in my right leg.  Until today, all of the problems affected my left leg only.  My left leg can be numb all it wants (not really), but I need my right leg for driving.  I’m ready to throw my hands in the air and give up, do not pass Go, and proceed directly to the operating room.  I don’t think I can wait until next month for the injection.  If my insurance doesn’t approve it for this month, I’m going to have to find out how much it would cost if I paid cash.

  1. Man, that sucks.  I’m really sorry to hear about this new development.  I hope you get ahold of the doctor tomorrow.

  2. Oh, NO! I’m so sorry to hear this! I want you on the mend by April, so see to it, will you eh?

  3. I’m really getting frustrated with your doctors and ins. co.  If I were you, I’d go to the dr office today and pitch a fit…except that I know you are in pain, so going to the office is a major ordeal.  How about I hop on a plane and pitch a fit for you?

I’m really sorry they are making a bad situation worse.

  4. I know, it just sucks.  I wouldn’t want to subject myself to that office again, if I didn’t have to - small waiting room, full of people who have been waiting over two hours for their appointments.  I fear starting a riot.
