Medical Marijuana
Okay, I’ve done it. I’ve sent away for my Medical Marijuana packet from the Nevada Department of Agriculture. I’ve already discussed it with my doctor and he’s fine with me using it if I have my MM card. I’ve explained that marijuana relieves certain pain that other medications don’t. For instance, when my Carpal Tunnel gets really bad, I get a horrible aching in my upper arm. Nothing has ever been able to get rid of it, other than marijuana. Not Advil, not Hydrocodone, not Oxycodone, regardless of the dosage. Marijuana is the only thing that has ever worked. However, I want to do this completely legally. My pain management doctor does drug testing, and I don’t want to be worrying about what’s in my system. I’m tired of the expense (it’s the end of March and I’ve already exhausted my insurance prescription coverage) and the side effects of pharmaceuticals. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that they exist, and I would still need to have meds around (right now, you’d have to pry my Enablex from my cold dead hands), but pot doesn’t have ANY side effects, except for sleepiness. None. Not urinary retention, not constipation, not dry mouth (maybe bad breath), and with a vaporizer, it isn’t even hard on your lungs. No one has ever died from using pot. No one. Water is more dangerous. I agree that driving after smoking/ingesting pot is dangerous, as is driving after drinking. I wouldn’t do either. I’m perfectly happy to not break any laws or endanger any lives in my quest to be pain-free.
Thanks to the tip from Nancy regarding a new study showing that cannabis is less harmful than substances that are sold at your local 7-Eleven. “Alcohol Worse Than Ecstasy, According To Proposed ‘Matrix Of Harm’ For Drugs” Science Daily — A new study published in the Lancet proposes that drugs should be classified by the amount of harm that they do, rather than the sharp A, B, and C divisions in the UK Misuse of Drugs Act. The new ranking places alcohol and tobacco in the upper half of the league table. These socially accepted drugs were judged more harmful than cannabis, and substantially more dangerous than the Class A drugs LSD, 4-methylthioamphetamine and ecstasy.

I hope you get what you need.
Frankly, I’ve never tried pot, and would likely react badly to the smoke (given my reaction to a boatload of hemp rope being burned near me). Nonetheless, I think it would be cheaper in the long run to invest in good education, counseling, and addiciton clinics, and just make all drugs legal. But that’s just how liberal I am. Hard to have drug runners when you can just go to your local chemists. It’s cheaper that way too, because it cuts out a hell of a lot of middlemen eager to kill each other. But marijuana is better for you than tobacco, that I firmly agree on. I wish it were legal for all.

I hope you can get what you need and endure the merciless teasing from Helly. You might attract a lot of bloggers to visit you in Vegas. (Although I’m scared of the Michael Jackson robot.)

Georg - you don’t have to smoke it for medicinal purposes. It can be cooked into lots of different foods. Or, you could use a vaporizer, so there wasn’t any smoke at all. That said, I’ve never tried a vaporizer, but if I get the MM card, I’ll want to get one. I, too, believe everything should be legalized. If alcohol is legal, everything else should be too. Besides, it would be nice if our drug cartels just wore suits and carried pens versus the thugs with guns. Sure, pharmaceutical companies can be just as dangerous, but we don’t have to be worried about being caught in the crossfire of two different pharma guys.
Helly - not yet, at least.
Nancy - ah, I’m not worried about Helly. She’ll just be jealous. And yeah, I’m worried about the Michael Jackson robot too. Creepy.

Pot cookies got me through the first six rounds of chemo the way NOTHING else could. There are some great recipes online. It really helped alot and was not only sanctioned but suggested by my oncologist.

Laurie - That’s great. I wonder if it’s more likely to happen in Canada than the US? Did the doctor help you find a way to get the pot or were you on your own with that?

I hope that works out for you quickly, flippy...I know a number of people who have used it during chemo and for chronic pain, shame such an effective remedy for so many is still illegal.

Someday I will get up the nerve to email or call you, just to discuss pain and all it’s suckiness. I can’t figure out what’s wrong with me, and I just can’t believe that THIS is my life at 41. Jeez, by the time I’m a grandma I won’t be able to hold my grandchild.
I know you posted links before about fibromyalgia, but I couldn’t even read them, for fear I’d realize that’s my problem, along with all these farking herniated discs.
I’m sorry I’m babbling. I know that pot has helped a lot of people, so I hope it works for you. I am so afraid of all these drugs...I’m tempted to stop everything and only eat raw veggies and fruit and live in an oxygenated bubble.
Pls keep us updated!
