Flippy - I Rant, You Read

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s SuperNauseaGirl

Blergh.  I’ve been reading up on it, and I think my Vistail might help though.  I was reading the Chronic Pain newsgroup and someone said that they took their Vistaril thirty minutes before their Methadone and that took care of the nausea.  That’s what I did with my last dose, but it’s definitely not completely gone.  Maybe I just have to suffer through it for a couple of weeks.  I’ll try to write something more interesting later.  Maybe a nice Idiot of the Day.

  1. Does Gravol knock you out?

  2. I’m sorry about the nausea.  That makes me crazy.

    I must say, nausea is not a side effect of your brother’s chiropractic care.  Another plus for him!

    Dare I say that I haven’t had any sciatica for 5 days now?

  3. Laurie - Gravol doesn’t exist in the US, although I know the name from Leigh-Ann talking about it.  I looked it up and it appears that Benadryl and Dramamine both have the same active ingredient as Gravol.  Luckily, I do have some Vistaril and in the chronic pain newsgroup, someone suggested taking it 30 minutes before the Methadone.  Today, I’m feeling a bit better, so either that method works...or I’m slowly getting used to the meds.

    MoonandSun - That’s good to know, that my brother isn’t making you nauseous. smile No sciatica for 5 days is great!  I actually have a bit of it today, but I have been sitting a lot, and it’s now that time of the month, which screws with everything pain-wise.

  4. benadryl=Diphenhydramine
    gravol=Dimenhydrinate

    There really close but not the same (I know this because the I get gravol to ward off nausea from the demerol and the nurses often get confused). It really works (and is cheap) but it does have the side effect of knocking me out. I could send you some, if you want to try, though. Let me know.

    I really want all this to go away for you. I wish I had a magic wand.

  5. That should be “they’re really close...” I really should proofread.

  6. Whoops, read Wikipedia when I was in a slightly nauseous stupor. wink Dramamine is the same and Benadryl is close.  Although, it looks like Benadryl should work faster, no?

    “Dimenhydrinate (marketed under brand names Dramamine, Gravol and Vertirosan) is an over-the-counter drug used to prevent motion sickness, (emesis). It is closely related to diphenhydramine HCl, or Benadryl. The differences relate to the weight-for-weight potency (50mg dimenhydrinate contains 29mg of the drug diphenhydramine), delay of action (dimenhydrinate must dissociate into diphenhydramine and its counterion in the body before it is active, therefore diphenhydramine produces effects sooner), and degree of sedation produced.”

    I do appreciate the offer of sending it to me, but I think I’m getting better, plus I have Benadryl in the house right now...and I may even have some Dramamine.  I had this weird ear problem that would make me feel sick while driving on the freeway (ugh, we had to take side streets for years because of it) and sometimes I’d get the “10 minute flu” (what my brother called it) when I was out at places like casinos or restaurants.  It finally went away.  But it’s funny, I also tried the motion sickness patch for it, and I was just telling Leigh-Ann that the side effects of the Methadone felt like the side effects from the patch.  It made my eyes hurt and made me feel woozy.  It definitely didn’t cure me.

    Anyway, I really appreciate the offer, but just your suggesting it was exactly what I needed.  It made me look it up and find out that we do have similar things here.  By the way, have you ever tried Benadryl for your nausea?  Also, if I wasn’t worried about drug testing at my pain management doctor’s office, I know that pot would probably fix this nasty little problem. grin

  7. I have used pot for “medicinal purposes” (and at the suggestion of my medical oncologist) quite happily. grin
