Idiots of the Day - Conservatives Against The Cervical Cancer Vaccine
“Because the vaccine protects against a sexually transmitted virus, many conservatives oppose making it mandatory, citing fears that it could send a subtle message condoning sexual activity before marriage. Several leading groups that promote abstinence are meeting this week to formulate official policies on the vaccine.”
So, let me get this straight. Conservatives don’t want their daughters vaccinated against a deadly disease before puberty because they want them to abstain from sex? Okay, what about the kids who don’t abstain (there are lots of them…check out the birth rates in the red states) or the ones who are raped? What about saving your kids’ lives do these idiots not understand? This “...vaccine appears to be virtually 100 percent effective against two of the most common cancer-causing HPV strains.” What happened to family values - doesn’t that include saving the LIVES of family members? “Cervical cancer strikes more than 10,000 U.S. women each year, killing more than 3,700.” You know what, I’ll bet those 10,000 women who get cervical cancer aren’t all liberals. You know, just a wild guess.
”“While we welcome medical advances such as an HPV vaccine, it remains clear that practicing abstinence until marriage and fidelity within marriage is the single best way of preventing the full range of sexually transmitted diseases,” the group said.” Hello! Idiots, do you need me to start naming all of the conservatives who have cheated on their wives, therefore not practicing the “single best way” to prevent sexually transmitted diseases? You know what, I think that you do. Here is a list, which is by no means exhaustive. Not everyone has been caught and publicly humiliated.
Rep. Henry Hyde
Mike Bowers
George Bush
Newt Gingrich
Bob Dole
Former Rep. Bob Dornan
John Linder
Ronald Reagan
William Cohen
Guy Millner
Rush Limbaugh
Mitch Skandalakis
Michael Deaver
John Warner
Bill Randall
Bill McCartney - Promise Keepers founder!
Rep. Dan Burton
Rep. Bob Barr Cheated on all three of his wives - and coerced one into having an abortion - then lied about it.
Rudolph Giuliani
Sen. Strom Thurmond
Gilbert Davis - Paula Jones’ attorney, who allowed himself to be videotaped drunk during his adultery
Bob Packwood
Gov. Kirk Fordice
Beverly Russell - The Christian Coalition coordinator who molested his stepdaughter Susan Smith, who later killed her own kids.
Marv Albert
Faux family values are so bitchin’.

Great list. I agree that this “abstinence only” idea is so so SO wrong. And I don’t get not wanting to protect your children.

You forget, dear Flippy, that conservatives do not have premarital sex, nor do they have extramarital affairs. These are good people who, for some reason, are completely frigid.

If men on the far-right, ultra-conservative, religious-extreme scale had cervixes (cervi?)? Screening for HPV would be mandatory law AND be free ... probably done in your local grocery store, along with flu shots.

Not that I am totally against the cervical cancer vaccinations but have you ever looked up the side effects (short and long term) of vaccinations including childhood shots? You would be very surprised. This is just one website, http://www.thinktwice.com that talks about vaccinations.

PS - I do, however, believe the blood test for ovarian cancer should be mandatory like it is for prostate cancer for men.

I don’t know one single person who’s been affected, or had a family member affected, by vaccine side-effects. Not one single person in my extended family, my ex-husband’s extended family, my ex-gf’s extended family, Flippy’s extended family, etc. I’m not saying it never happens, but it must be awfully rare. I’m sure the occasional child dies from being accidentally strangled by shoelaces, too, yet no one has put a moratorium on shoes sales.

I’m not making an arguemental point. I am stating a fact. For one thing when you and I were young they covered about 23 different vaccines combined into about 8 shots. Now they cover 40 different vaccines combined into 14 shots.
Why I mentioned this is because my niece had a reaction to the MMR vaccine. She had a seizure (right after receiving the vaccine) and continues to have them. I never knew anyone either but after looking it up I was surprised in just how many humans have been effected in just United States alone. Pretty scary.
FACTS:
• increase in frequent courses of antibiotics for treatment of recurrent ear infections and/or respiratory illness in children
• Long terms effects in adults of today are the newly emerging and poorly understood syndromes of chemical sensitivity, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, multiple sclerosis, cancer etc.
• Increase in austism (never heard of before 1945 when the vaccinations came about)
• Increase in Asthma, Attention Deficit Disorders, hyperactivity in children
• 2500 children die each year from vaccinations.
• 82% of doctors do not report adverse reactions from vaccinations.
• 70% of doctors and nurses DO NOT get the flu shot each year (my sister is a nurse and refuses to get the flu shot).I am just stating these facts so that more people are aware of these things. Remember, the tabacoo companies all swore up and down that smoking did not cause cancer….now we know the truth years later.

I am puzzled as to why ‘some people’ seem to think teaching young people about condom use, STD’s, approving vaccines for some STD’s…why is this ‘condoning premarital sex’ or even encouraging it? It seems to me that the more informed a person is, the less likely they’d be to do something really stupid. Like have unprotected sex with someone they just met (picked up). sigh. I am SO old!

Mikey, I’m here to correct you and let you know that the proper term to use is “hooked up”. For example, if you want to imply you had sex with someone you just met, you say, “I hooked up with that guy at the bar, the one with the eye patch and the parrot”. I’m glad my MTV education has come in handy!
Leigh-Ann on 11/02 at 03:06 PM -
I still believe vaccinations are safer than the diseases, so while there have been bad reactions, there are also bad reactions to cancer drugs…which save lives.
Anyway, these people who don’t want their kids vaccinated, it’s not because they’re concerned about their childrens’ health. It’s because they think a vaccination or knowledge about sex means their kids are automatically going to hop into bed with someone. Since birth rates are higher amongst the un(or under)educated, I’m guessing that knowledge is a good thing. Go figure. But then, I’m old, like Mikey.

Mikey “Because educating anyone is contrary to Republican policy. Education bad, blind faith good.
Silent Leanne on 11/08 at 03:13 PM -
Pssst, Silent Leanne, Mikey is a Republican. One ‘o them ones who believes in educating young people, clearly. So, Mikey is on our side. We need to find a whole bunch of Republicans who can agree with us that yes, abstinence is fine & dandy, but some kids are going to have sex. It happened when we were all kids, it’s happening now. Preaching “no sex, no sex, no sex, no sex” won’t stop them, so we damned well better protect them.
Flippy on 11/08 at 05:22 PM -
Its not just about the politics. A rep from the FDA noted that 5 women who had conceived shortly after receiving the vaccine had babies with birth defects. The truth is, we have no idea what the long-term effects on fertility will be for a 9 year old getting this shot -then having to get a booster every 5 years. Remember DES? No vaccine should be mandatory until long term statistics are in - and I mean like 50 years down the road. Not 5 years. Merck admits they only innoculated 250 9 year olds during the entire study. Glad its available, but to make it mandatory is just one giant experiment on a generation of girls.
