Happy 4th of July
Once again, Vegas sounds like a war zone, even though all of those fireworks are illegal. Even though it was 116 out today, and even though I can’t remember the last time it rained. I think firecrackers are one of the stupidest inventions. Yes, let’s listen to something explode. Wheeee! No, it’s not pretty. Yes, it just makes a loud bang. But still, let’s waste a whole lot o’ cash on tiny sticks of explosives. Oh, how fun. And, once again, those of us with pets get to stay home and make sure our animals are okay. Cricket and Phoenix now have their “shutup” bones, which are chicken wrapped porkhide wrapped rawhide. They seem to love them, although Cricket is still barking at the loudest of bangs. Eli is locked in the laundry room, hopefully not hearing too much and not fearfully peeing on the floor. I hope all of our neighbors once again enjoy their explosives. I’m having just a terrific time. Wheee.

It’s like Hell Night for dogs. For me, too, unless I’m outside participating. Not that I ever have, but I just imagine that would be more fun than being inside, constantly surprised.

“We drove the car to the top of the parking ramp on the 4th of July.
We sat out on the hood with a couple of
Warm beers and watched the fireworks explode in the sky.
And there was an exodus of birds from the trees,
Because they didn’t know we were only pretending.
And the people all looked up and looked pleased,
And the birds flew around like the whole world was ending.”Sorry, your post just reminded me of that verse.

We do fireworks out at the lake- on a bare rock surrounded by the lake. No worries about fire. PArticularly this year- as it poured rain on the 4th. Because of the wind however (which was blowing to the spectators), we did most of the fireworks on Fri, when the weather was nicer (70º, dry, with wind blowing off the point). the dogs stay in the cabin with my mom and hide under the furniture. They have become accostomed to this. Poor things.
