Could This Deliciousness Be Making Us Sick?
Wouldn’t that be horrible if all of these powders that we love so, are making us feel worse? We know that they didn’t cause Leigh-Ann’s FMS because she had it before the drinks existed. However, I got sick just as we switched from Gatorade (after my surgery) to powdered singles in our water bottles. Hmmmm. But, they’re sooo good. The Celestial Seasonings Zingers (not pictured) don’t have any aspartame in them, and they’re pretty good too, although more expensive. We’ve also discovered that the Stevia Company makes four flavors of powders with all-natural Stevia in them, instead of chemical junk. We’ll have to check to see if Whole Foods carries them.

Hmmm, I said I was going to write about something fun, huh? Later today, I promise. No wait, later today I’ll write about the free discount pharmacy cards you can get online that’ll save you money, if you don’t have insurance, or if you’re like me and wiped out your pharmacy benefits for the year in March. You can save lots and lots of money with these cards. I only wish we’d known about them sooner.
update - Tomorrow, we’re going artificial sweetener free for a week or two, to see if we feel any differently. We put away probably $50+ of drink singles, and if we feel better without them, we’ll donate them to people who are craving the danger of artificial sweeteners. I wish we both liked drinking plain water, but we just don’t. We like flavor in our lives, so we’ll figure out a way to get it without damaging ourselves in the process.

So TRUE!!! I’ve been using stevia for a while now and I love IT!!! I like the fact that they have a root beer liquid flavored stevia and apricot nectar. I know you can find them at Whole Foods or any other health food store!

Well, HELL! It’s no wonder you’re sick if you’ve been drinking stuff like that! Drink nothing but lovely, smokey, single-malt Scotch and you’ll be fine as frog hair. That’s what I do - I try to keep the blood level in my Scotch-stream so low that no self-respecting germ can survive in my body. It’s working fine so far…

Kim - yep, we intend to find some Stevia flavors, and I’ve discoved that they making Stevia Stevita powdered singles too. We discussed the root beer and decided that while we really like root beer, we don’t like flat root beer, which is what it would taste like added to water bottles, no? Apricot nectar sounds tasty though. I wish those flavors were cheaper, as it’s awfully expensive to try a couple of bottles. But, we’ve put away all of the artifical sweetened powdered mixes and starting tomorrow, we’ll begin our experiment.
Helly - oh, how I wish sometimes that I liked drinks like Scotch. But, there’s just about nothing I like less than straight up booze. My parents had an armoire-like bar when I was a kid, and when they’d go on vacation, I think it was going to be party-time. I couldn’t even get past the smell of my dad’s Scotch to try it. Yuk! Triple yuk! I’ve love to try one sip of the really expensive stuff, but my guess is that I’d still hate it. I even tried making screwdrivers, but 99% orange juice still wasn’t enough. I gave up on stealing the folks’ booze very very quickly. I did, however, make Kahlua in my bedroom drawer once. It tasted okay, but I still prefer Hawaiian Punch. There must be something genetic in liking the flavor of alcohol, because none of my brothers drink either. We all think it tastes gross.

I adore the taste of alcohol, when I’m in the mood for it. My taste is expensive though. And it doesn’t play well with medication and can make me feel less resistant to my sensitivities. Overall, it’s not a good thing to be on.
These powdered teas- I’ve tried them. Initially, I thought they were yummy too, but the more I had the more sick to my stomach I felt. I’m avoiding them too. The ones with Splenda never had a chance with me because I have a strong reaction to Splenda, and the next person who says “But it’s all natural! It’s made of sugar!” is going to be bopped on the nose. It isn’t sugar any more and what it is now hurts something awful when it goes through my intestines. I like the Lipton with lemon instant (with real sugar), but I still have to dilute it mightily. Like you two, I hate my water plain. My default water now is just adding a squirt of lime juice to the water. It has the benefit of vitamin C.

What about herbal iced tea? Some of the fruity ones are naturally pretty sweet. Would that cut it?

You know what i did? i called sweetleaf and asked them to send me some samples. They have 12 liquid stevia flavors. And because i dont like my root beer flat either i added a few drops to sparkling water. 3 drops per 2 oz

Ah, an excellent idea, Kim. Thanks. I’ll contact them, because I don’t want to fork over $50 for flavors that I may not even like.
