Blech
Blech, feel like crap today. It’s the week out of the month that I wish to be male. Look, Mr/Mrs Ruler of the Universe, I’m not going to have kids. Must I suffer for this anyway? Is that necessary? There is no medication or heating pad or anything that fixes it.
But I’m not ready for the new tv season to start. Gah! Okay, yes, I’m sorta ready for Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, Lost and Nip/Tuck, but give me some extra months for new shows. I don’t have enough time to watch what I want, so I guess I’ll give a shot to Everybody Hates Chris, Bones (even though I’m unhappy that they’re changing the lead character from French Canadian oui oui, to working out of D.C. zzzz), I loved the Kathy Reichs books, so they’ll get one shot at me. Plus, I’ll watch the Alyson Hannigan/Doogie Howser show once. Otherwise, I’m pretty happy with my current playlist. Survivor, The Amazing Race (those kids had better not ruin it!), Lost, Gilmore Girls, Weeds, Veronica Mars, Nip/Tuck, and Arrested Development. But ack, too much tv and not enough time, that’s even using a TiVo. I guess I should count in playing one fantasy baseball league (being creamed by my brother), two fantasy football leagues (first week, so far so good) and a fantasy hockey league, where I’m picking up Tie Domi (or Voldemort) even if he does get some penalty points.
Okay, back to the heating pad. Oh, and ESL Nancy, I have an email I’ve been mulling in my head for the past week or so for you. Have you read Irshad Manji’s book? Give me a couple of days to become myself again.

I’m sorry you’re so miserable. Fucking Period, man.
As a mother, I feel somewhat bad for saying this, but when I saw that KIDS are going to be on the amazing race? I threw a little tantrum, because TRUST ME, the kids WILL ruin it. But, keep in mind I’m one of those parents who gets PISSED OFF at parents who let their kids “play games with the adults.” My kids know better than to even ASK.

Have to laugh...I swear since I’ve started reading your blog, it’s like I’m in the same dorm room or something. It’s that wonderful time of the month over here, too! I think I have whimpy hormones because it always seems like my cycle moves to fit the cycle of my roommate(s) rather than the other way around.(Well, except for not now because I live with my husband)
I figure I’m not “ESL” Nancy - is that “english as a second language” Nancy? But I had to comment that I just love Irshad Manji! I haven’t read her book (it’s been bookmarked on my Amazon wish list for a while), but I’ve seen her interviewed on television as well as listened to her on NPR.
I’m out of it as far as TV at the moment, but I’m looking forward to checking out all of the new shows. I finally got a chance to watch, “Veronica Mars” last week for the first time and enjoyed it. I’ve been meaning to watch it all year, not only because it has received favorable reviews, but also because Kristen Bell is from Michigan and grew up only about a mile from where I’m living. She’s a bit of a hometown hero up here.on 09/13 at 05:04 PM -
We have to distinguish between Nancys here - you’re Melissa’s neighbor Nancy, and ESL Nancy does teach English as a second language and is currently learning Arabic.
I haven’t seen Irshad interviewed on tv and she’s a little screechy in her book, but very very very informative for a Muslism know-nothing like me.
Veronica Mars is awesome, I can’t wait until it’s back. Hear that, ESL Nancy!? VM is what forlorn Buffy fans have been waiting for - a kick butt girl, a fairly sensible father and terrific snappy writing.
Please excuse my writing, I’m heavily medicated. This Nancy doesn’t want any inkling of a pain...ever. That doesn’t always translate to writing well, alas.

Oh man… I could have written that myself! LMAO
Those kids are going to ruin The Amazing Race for all of us. I certainly don’t want to watch Joe Blow’s overtired kids throwing tantrums on television. No thanks. I am looking forwards to Survivor though and I am just recently getting into Gilmore Gils. They have some great writers on that show!

Cramps really suck. I felt it was my duty as a “good mom”, or at least as “trying to be a good mom” to talk with my daughter about how her period is a monthly reminder of how fricken’ amazing the female body is. So far, she doesn’t mind her period at all, but then again, she hasn’t experienced cramps yet.
I just hope all this positive talk and attitude makes a difference with her. I wonder how it would have been for me if my mom hadn’t warned me how awful it would always be.
I’m not trying to minimize your pain...this is just all fresh in my mind since my daughter just started this summer.

Looking forward to that email. Have you tried bcps? I was on them for years and my period was just . . . neglible. Some people say nice things about Depo-Provera and others say it makes them really depressed. I have Ms. Manji’s book on my nightstand right now - I’ve read about half of it. I’ll check out Veronica Mars. I hope I can get it from Netflix. I don’t really watch anything that’s not on dvd anymore! Except 60 Minutes, sometimes. And the Food Network.

Wait - Willow and Doogie? What?
ESL Nancy on 09/14 at 03:13 PM -
Yes, Willow & Doogie in “How I Met Your Mother” - http://www.cbs.com/primetime/how_i_met_your_mother/
Ack, Veronica Mars isn’t available until October 11th...at least from Amazon. Maybe you can find a marathon. I promise you’ll like it.
