The Dresden Files - Please, Please Watch This

I love the Dresden Files books, so please give the tv show a chance.  It’s on the Sci-Fi Network.  I’ll be your BFF.  Thanks in advance.

An Update For Amy Sherman-Palladino

Dear Amy, we just finished watching last week’s episode of Gilmore Girls and it was awful.  All of the extra drama for absolutely no reason.  No Michel, Sookie, Paris, Lane, Parental Unit Gilmores, et al.  At the very least, April should’ve tragically died.  I blame you for April’s existence, so couldn’t you pull some strings to have her surgery take a terrible and unexpected un-Gilmore Girls-like turn for the worse?  Mind you, I have nothing against the actress who plays April (except that every time she shows up in a scene, my eyes roll into the back of my head...I’m sure it’s just the writing), but can’t she please please just go away?  This one’s on you, Amy Sherman-Palladino.  You invented her, now make her go away.  Surely, even though the show is no longer yours, you could do something about this terrible mistake you made last season.

Honestly, I’m thisclose to ending what was a beautiful (yet unnatural, I admit) relationship I’ve had with those wacky Gilmore girls.  But now, the show is about 5 minutes of the show we knew and loved, and the rest is either filler (read:  Luke & April, Lucy & Olivia) or just annoying.  I no longer rub my hands together in glee when I see Gilmore Girls waiting in the queue on the TiVo.  Now, it’s like, “Okay, let’s watch it and get it over with, so we can watch something we enjoy.” It’s very very sad.

An Open Letter To Amy Sherman-Palladino

Leigh-Ann and I just finished watching the “Gilmore Girls” episode from the 14th.  Gah, it keeps jumping the shark, and then jumping it again this season.  Yes, I HATED Luke & Lorelai last season, and the character of April is just horrible - a (finger quote)tragic(finger quote) chemistry experiment, done by the girl genius, gone awry would be lovely.  She’s really really annoying and boring.  She’s like Punky Brewster, but not nearly as interesting.  However, this season is putting the crappy parts of last season into perspective.  Rory’s new BFFs, Lucy & Olivia?  Terrible, just terrible.  If the Palladinos had written them, I’m sure they wouldn’t have tried to give them Lorelai and Rory’s lines and expected them to be able to pull them off.  Instead, it’s like watching girls from “Laguna Beach”, only without the pretty scenery.  I’ve never watched an episode of that show, but “The Soup” has shown enough clips for me to be able to make the comparison.

Unlike many GG’s fans, I don’t hate Christopher.  He seems like a nice enough guy these days, so having him around occasionally is okay.  But at the expense of Sookie, Michel, the elder Gilmores, Mrs. Kim, Paris, Taylor (where the hell is Taylor?), et al.?  No, a thousand times, no.  The last season of “Buffy” left much to be desired, but there were still episodes that were brilliant; not so with “Gilmore Girls” this season.  It’s so sad that it’s going to end its run with a whole wasted season.  When recommending the show, I’ll tell people to buy/rent seasons one thru six, and to just forget about seven.

I honestly don’t know why I titled this “An Open Letter to Amy Sherman-Palladino” in order to just complain about whomever is running the show now.  But, I’d like to end it with, “Amy, I hated the Luke & Lorelai crap, and I think April is one of the worst plot devices to infect a great tv show, but this season...I miss you terribly.  The writing is missing all of the great pop culture wit.  It’s missing the supreme comic relief of the townies.  It’s missing the Palladinos.  Please let them pay you whatever it takes to write, say, a two hour season/show finale.  Let the show go out on a good note.  Please?!?!”

Now, I want to write about some good television - “Heroes”, if you’re not watching it...start now.  You can catch up by watching the episodes on the NBC website.  I promise that you’ll love the show, or I’ll give you back all those hours of your life.  No, really, I will.  And, if you have more time to spend, please also watch ”Studio 60 Live on the Sunset Strip”.  If you’ve been wasting your time on “Gilmore Girls”, it’ll thrill you to see good snappy writing again.  One more NBC show plug - “30 Rock”.  I wasn’t overly fond of the season premiere, but since then, it’s been damned good.  Alec Baldwin is spectacular.

Steve Irwin & South Park

“Crikey! Has enough time passed to begin making fun of the Crocodile Hunter’s violent underwater demise? Yes, say the makers of “South Park,” who aired a scathing episode this week featuring a dead Steve Irwin with a stingray tail impaled in his chest - less than two months after the TV host’s accidental death.”

Oh, c’mon people, have you seen that episode?  We watched it tonight and were stunned that everyone is complaining about a very very mild, by “South Park” standards, Steve Irwin joke.  In fact, the South Park guys were actually quite kind regarding Steve Irwin.  It was not “scathing” in the slightest.  What no one is complaining about?  Naked little boys on leashes held by Catholic priests, serial killers randomly stabbing people to death, Satan having a Halloween party with LOTS of dead celebrities, etc.  Did you see that I mentioned NAKED LITTLE BOYS ON LEASHES HELD BY PRIESTS?  I liked Steve Irwin, and even watched his memorial service and got weepy, but it’s “South Park”, not “The Wiggles” or “Barney” or any other show that doesn’t make gross, crass, and disgusting (but funny) jokes.

The Blur Of The Last Two Months

I feel like I lost two months of my life.  Well, after I lost almost a year of my life to back pain, doctor visits, surgery, and recovery from surgery.  The last two months I’ve either been sick (first with a sinus infection that would not die, then with a cold) or in school.  Even though I learned a lot in school and I’m kind of excited to start doing loans (but terrified at the same time - you’ll send people to me, right?), I feel like so much has gone on and I’ve gotten a little lost.  Then again, if I look back over the last two months, a lot really has happened - some stuff that I can discuss publicly and some stuff that I can’t.  Weird stuff.  Annoying stuff.  Baffling stuff.  Plus, there was that weird dream last night about Sharon Stone shoplifting.  Why on earth am I dreaming about Sharon Stone?  And why is she shoplifting in that dream?

Hey, you know what’s been good lately?  Television.  Veronica Mars is back.  It’s so good.  Are you watching it?  You should be.  Although, why does Mac look different this season?  She looks...odd.  Also, Gilmore Girls is back.  The blessed breakup of Luke and Lorelai.  They made a terrible couple.  The new show this season that you should be watching - Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.  It’s awesome.  The writing is great, the acting is fabulous, and I’ve missed Matthew Perry.

We have new foster kittens.  We’re not sure how old they are, but they’re already at the cute stage where they’re running and jumping and playing.  They’re our third set of foster kittens, and our third set of themed names.  The first kittens were hockey-themed, the second set were Buffy-themed, and these guys are mortgage class themed.  We have Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and TJ.  TJ was our instructor, and she was pretty cool, so we felt she deserved a kitten named after her.  The kitten happens to be a boy, but I don’t think TJ would mind.  By the way, is anyone looking to adopt some kittens?  They’ll be ready for homes in a couple of weeks.  They’re super cute and fun and playful.  C’mon, you know you want some.  They’re like potato chips, you can’t just stop at one.  Take all three.
