the wee hours

Ack, I’ve Fallen Behind On NaBloCoMo

I’ve fallen behind on NaBloCoMo, but I’m going to catch up in the next couple of days.  I guess it’s cheating a little because I’m not doing it every day, but December is a tough month for that.  November was much easier for daily tasks.  I was really great about it for two weeks, but I’ll catch up this weekend.  I have a couple of last minute holidayish things to do, then Xmas Eve at my parents (we had a Hanukkah buffet night out on Wednesday w/ the folks), Xmas Day with just us and our Diestel turkey & football, and possibly Boxing Day at our former neighbors’ new house across town.  Tomorrow, we might check out the new buffet at the Santa Fe and maybe they’ll have some noodle kugel for Hanukkah.

A NaBloCoMo Sticky (updated - I’ve decided to unsticky this)

nablocomo_120_x_80

I’m going to leave this up at the top, linking to my daily updated list of new places I’ve discovered this month in main NaBloCoMo entry.  The other entry is too darned large to stay at the top of my blog all month.  There will be new posts below this one.

terribly early in the morning

It’s December, It’s NaBloCoMo

Here’s a list of all the great blogs I visited, read, and commented upon (outside my normal blogroll circles) during this month of NaBloCoMo.  Sing it, Perry!

Also, I’ll be visiting some blogs from Fussy’s NaBloPoMo participant’s list through Lane’s cool little randomizer tool.

  • December 1
  • - I found this blog while doing searches for work a couple of days ago.  I’m pretty sure her gf probably thought my work email was spam, but hey, I’m getting used to it.  Anyway, I found Creampuff Revolution ("Rosemary Rowe is a playwright, freelance writer and blogger who is pretty sure Anne of Green Gables turned her gay.") as a result of reading the bio from My Name is Kate.  So, I may not sign the blog (to a contract), but I’ve found two new blogs that I’ll enjoy reading.  A silver lining.  Two Canadian blogs to celebrate Leigh-Ann’s brand spankin’ new permanent residency.  Yay!

  • December 2
  • - I picked this blog off Leigh-Ann’s blogroll, since she was nice enough to pick one from mine.  I went to visit Bonnie Underfoot and Victor Tabbycat , self-described as, “We’re a pair of Wisconsin tabbies, Bonnie and Victor. We are opposites yet remarkably similar. We are cats.” Tons of cute cat pictures, and some fine writing done by cats.  My guess is that you really haven’t see a lot of blogs like this one. wink

  • December 3
  • - Today I took a gander at the Randomizer to find my next blog.  I hit a few duds before I found Don’t Try This at Home.  Not only did I find someone amusing who shares my love of bread pudding, but she has great graphics from Larry Jones Illustration that I’m going to have to check out when I have some spare change.  (Leigh-Ann and I have the retro fonts and some other retro graphics, but I’m often too lazy to put the whole shebang together to make something of it) Plus, she has great names for her kids’ teachers - Mrs. Meh & Mrs. Too-pretty-and-smart-oh-my-god-do-her-legs-ever-end.

  • December 4
  • - I swiped this one from the Creampuff Revolution blogroll, because I hit another group of duds (mostly not updated or 404’d) through the Randomizer.  I chose it because it’s called ”I Have a Bomb Shelter And You Can’t Use It”, which amused me.  I might have been hurt, but I don’t think he lives anywhere near Vegas.  After a quick perusal, I’m pretty sure that we have very little in common besides our fondness of Liz Phair.  Nonetheless, he writes well and has a knack for telling a good story.

  • December 5
  • - I swiped another from Leigh-Ann’s blogroll.  I’ve been to Coll’s blog before, but I don’t recall ever leaving a comment.  But her cute dog with Santa looks just like Phoenix, if Phoenix wasn’t all allergy-laden and kinda stinky.  I don’t know why I think Coco smells better than Phoenix just from a picture, but I just think he does.  Anyway, go visit and take a peek at Coco with Santa, and other pups waiting to see Santa.  Also, Coll is really really nice and always leaves nice comments for Leigh-Ann.  Must be that Canadian thing.  Although, she did cheat and in her 100 things about her, she only wrote 47.  We must convince her to finish. smile

  • December 6
  • - Kai found me before I found her.  It looks like it’s going to be a Canadian-heavy list considering their population.  But, I live with a Canadian, so that seems fair.  Anyway, Kai’s blog is The Buzz Queen, although I’m not sure why.  Hey, I can’t read a whole blog in twenty minutes.  But, she wrote about some cool gadgets (Mood Beams - I want ‘em), a fabulous looking Candy Cane Martini, a bunch ‘o crafty things, and her daughters play hockey.  Oh, and she has cute pets.  What’s not to like?  Plus, if those pictures in her Flickr account are of where she lives, I want to move there - it’s so pretty!

  • December 7
  • - Today, through the Randomizer, I actually picked a guy.  I think some diversity was needed on this list.  I ran across some other folks, but I’m not sure that a person with lots of religious books on their favorite books list would welcome me.  So, I chose Over A Candle by jbnimble.  And no, I have no idea what his real name is.  But, he wrote a great speech for Bush to give, and he loves Studio 60 and Heroes, so he’s passed both my political and my tv tests.  Of course, when I was trying to leave a comment, I suddenly couldn’t reach his website.  In fact, I’ve had lots of weird comment problems lately.  And emails that have disappeared.  Perhaps I have a weird electrical charge surrounding me or something.

    NaBloCoMo LoGos

NaBloCoMo LoGos - color adjusted, many sizes for you to enjoy, plus the original Perry Como album cover from which the logo was stolen.  Our apologies to Perry, but December requires commenting and he had an excellent album cover that needed tainting.  Leigh-Ann and I were out one day last week (or the week before - we’ve lost track of time) and thought up NaBloCoMo because after a whole month of posting, we thought people should relax and get to know their fellow bloggers by actually reading what they wrote in November.  Plus, making a few new friends would be good...and actually letting them know that you’re reading their blog would be nice and festive.  The day we thought of NaBloCoMo, I came home to post about it and found out that Citizen of the Month had already had the idea, but called it something else.  Something I can’t remember, but it was the same idea.  So, if he wants to do it, he’s more than welcome to have the logos and start ‘er up.

    late afternoon

    National Blog Commenting Month?

C’mon, someone needs to start it.  We could use a month where each day participants comment on a blog where they’ve never commented before.  It’ll be cheery.  Here, here’s a logo.  (thanks to Leigh-Ann for fixing it for me)

    nablocomo

The above was not approved by Perry Como.  I’ll bet that if Perry Como was still alive, he’d be honored to have December be NaBlaCoMo.  Seriously.  What better way to honor a guy who was associated with Christmas albums?  Also, I feel badly for leaving non-Americans out of the title, but just think of “National” as your nation, whichever nation is yours.  Or, it could be changed to InBloCoMo, although that looks vaguely dirty.

Look, it even makes for a lovely thumbnail. nablocomo Here are a variety of sizes of logos for your viewing pleasure - http://www.theblogpound.com/nablocomo/
