Idiots of the Day - Our Politicians & Military
This is a copy of my (poorly worded, written late at night, but I just read about this and I’m spittin’ mad!) letter to Sen. Harry Reid and copied to President Obama.
Sen. Reid: It’s absolutely reprehensible that the military would kick Lt. Col. Fehrenbach out (2 years before his full retirement - how convenient…use him for 18 years, then toss him away) because of his sexual orientation. I cannot believe how backwards this stupid law makes us look. Have you compared the other countries who also kick out their gay servicemembers? We’re just like Iraq, North Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc. Doesn’t that embarrass you, personally? It should. We’ve wasted millions of dollars with these witchhunts and we’re WEAKENING our military by kicking out Arabic translators and decorated combat veterans because oooooh, they might have a same-sex boyfriend or girlfriend. Ewww, cooties. It’s so stupid. I’m embarrassed for our country, for our president, for our senate and congress. We’re no better than those we fight against. We’re facing trillions in debt, yet we’re wasting money investigating honorable members of the military because of what they do in their private lives. It’s disgusting. Every single senator and congressman should hang their heads in shame. President Obama, although he wasn’t responsible for this law, owes it to those who voted him into office, those who didn’t discriminate based on his color, to stop the military from discriminating based on orientation. While he didn’t “promise” to end DADT, he said that he “thought” he could end it. He hasn’t even seemed to try. He should be ashamed as well. The whole lot of you, letting the military act like children who are afraid of cooties. How embarrassing for a modern military - afraid that their members might be gay. It’s fine and dandy to torture prisoners, but the fear of gay men and women is just too much to handle, huh? Nancy XXXX “Lieutenant Colonel Victor J. Fehrenbach, a fighter weapons systems officer, has been flying the F-15E Strike Eagle since 1998. He has flown numerous missions against Taliban and al-Qaida targets, including the longest combat mission in his squadron’s history. On that infamous September 11, 2001, Lt. Col. Fehrenbach was handpicked to fly sorties above the nation’s capital. Later he flew combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has received at least 30 awards and decorations including nine air medals, one of them for heroism, as well as campaign medals for Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He is now a flight instructor in Idaho, where he has passed on his skills to more than 300 future Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force weapons systems officers. Since 1987, when Fehrenbach entered Notre Dame on a full Air Force ROTC scholarship, the government has invested twenty-five million dollars in training and equipping him to serve his country, which he has done with what anyone would agree was great distinction. He comes from a military family. His father was a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, his mother an Air Force nurse and captain. Lt. Col. Fehrenbach has honored that tradition.” - Aubrey Sarvis, Executive Director Servicemembers Legal Defense Network
