late morning

2007?  GO AWAY!!! (or better known as 2007 screws with us again)

I was just getting ready to begin my morning, which involved picking Leigh-Ann up at the airport at 11:30am.  I was bemoaning the fact that I was still sleepy and I apparently thought that thought too loudly.  After taking the big dogs out (that’s a whole ‘nother story - Dobby went into heat while Leigh-Ann was gone), because I’ve had to lock the doggie door flap so Dobby doesn’t go looking for dudes to pick up outside.  Eli has old lady bladder now and unfortunately I was too late and she leaked (like a gallon - she’s a BIG dog with a BIG bladder) all over her Kuranda bed.  But, no biggie, I propped it against the wall so she couldn’t lay on it again when she came back in, so I could clean it later.  Maybe even after I picked Leigh-Ann up at the airport.  So, the big dogs went out and peed, and then I brought them in for us all to get another 90 minutes of sleep before we got the household in motion.

The phone rang, and it was an odd message, saying that because I hadn’t picked up, I wouldn’t be charged for the call.  I had no idea what that was about...until 20 minutes later, when I got a called from Mississauga, and I figured a phone call from Canada this morning couldn’t be anything but important.  Apparently that first call was Leigh-Ann trying to call collect (I wish she’d been able to keep going until the machine picked up), but either she or the operator hung up.  The next call was from WestJet, telling me that Leigh-Ann missed her connecting flight out of Toronto to Las Vegas.  The flight left late from Ottawa because of de-icing, which we can all agree is very very important.  However, Leigh-Ann had called WestJet yesterday to ask what would happen if she missed her flight (there’s only one a day) because she missed the connection on the way there, although there are a bunch of flights between Toronto & Ottawa, so it wasn’t a big deal, she just took the next one an hour later.  Anyway, she’d called the airline and they said that she wouldn’t miss the connection because they make sure they get the passengers’ bags all ready for them to go through customs, so they don’t have to wait for them to come off the plane.  She also said that they would hold the plane up for the connecting passengers.  She lied.  The airline said that because it would take the passengers too long to get through customs (they couldn’t take those 5 or 6 people and rush them through?), they couldn’t hold the plane up.  Because of that, instead of Leigh-Ann coming in at 11:30AM, she’ll be here at 8:30PM...from Calgary.

Ordinarily, it’s mostly just sucky for Leigh-Ann - she has a cold, her laptop cord is in her packed bags, so she doesn’t have her laptop to keep her company.  I hope that at least her iPod is fully charged...although, it gets its charge from the laptop.  She’s having to kill 9 extra hours.  WestJet isn’t going look so good on Leigh-Ann’s next blog entry.  Anyway, the extra sucky thing is that today is New Year’s Eve.  In Las Vegas.  They close the usual roads I take to the airport at 6p, two hours before Leigh-Ann’s flight gets in.  There are, fortunately, other ways to get to the airport.  But still, 2007 seems to want to cause mayhem right up until the very last moment possible.  It’s good that she made a little extra food for the cats (they eat Wild Kitty raw food, which requires her grinding up five billion pounds of chicken), so they’ll have enough food made to get them through tomorrow, I think.

I guess our plan of having New Year’s Eve be our Christmas Eve, with yummy food and presents to open...will have to wait until New Year’s Day.  I can’t imagine that Leigh-Ann will be in any sort of mood to open gifts.  I’m guessing that she’ll want to say hello to all the pets and go directly to bed.  We’ll work on making 2008 much much better, because I don’t want to even imagine it getting worse.

Oh, and to top it off for Leigh-Ann, she was in the fantasy football championship and her players all did horribly, except for Kurt Warner.  So, she lost the league championship to a team who didn’t even really play for half the season...and who may not even know that he won.

Goodbye & Good Riddance 2007

Not just for me, but for a lot of people I know.  I don’t want to tempt the fates, but 2008 could hardly be worse.  If it is, well...then that’ll be somethin’, uh huh.

Some Xmas Videos - Happy Holidays to My Friends, Near & Far (mostly far, really far)

Not meant to be depressing - I was going more for the Las Vegas & Elvis flavor.  I already miss Leigh-Ann, since we’re together pretty much 24/7.  Nonetheless, I’m happy she’s having a white Christmas with her family, for the first time in 13 years.  That’s way too long to miss the holidays at home.  Hopefully, next year we’ll have it all figured out so that she can be here for Xmas Eve and we can both be there for Christmas Day.  And, I wouldn’t mind a Leafs’ game to add to it...and some snow, but not too much snow...or too much cold.

One more.  I’ve been awake for an hour or so waiting until it was time to give Cricket her meds.  I don’t want to let her get off schedule because the meds are helping her pain tremendously.  No panting since yesterday after she, uh, took care of some business that she was in too much pain to take care of before.  I’m guessing the position is very painful for her.  However, the combination of Tramadol, Robaxin, & Prednisone is keeping her comfortable.  She’s sleeping, she still has an appetite, and she isn’t making me want to cry when I listen to her pant and whimper.  Best of all, she isn’t following me everywhere I go in the bedroom, which was also making her pain worse due to all of the activity.  I tried sitting on the floor with her and petting her to calm her through the pain, but it didn’t work.  She wanted to be glued to me...but she was still in extreme pain.  However, add another fan of better living through chemistry to the household.  She’s much closer to being the happy Cricket we know and love.  So, I’m off to give her a lovely Hawaiian bread doughball (mmm, nothing but the best for my baby - plus, I can occasionally sneak a pillless doughball) with some lovely Tramadol & Prednisone.  And, I’ll see you at 8am for the Robaxin doughball.

A fun one!

I appreciate all of your good thoughts for us (in previous entries and emails), and we’re hoping for a better and healthier 2008, for us and for our furry beings.  This year has sucked in a whole lot of ways, but we’re both grateful for the amazing friendships we’ve found online.  You’ve all enriched our lives, and we wished you lived closer.  I’m hoping to at least be able to track down Laurie & Dana (our Ontario pals) and their boys (Dana has THREE boys!!!, as of last Friday - she wins for best Xmas present ever) for next year’s Canadian Xmas (or fall, fall is good) vacation.

A Lonely Jew on Christmas

Rather than write about the sucky things getting suckier, I’m just going to put this video up and wish you guys a happy holiday.  When I see you next, I hope to be cheerier.

Contrary to South Park lore, on Christmas Eve, I’ll be with my family.  Christmas Day, I’ll hopefully be watching live video of Leigh-Ann and her family opening their presents.  After that, I’ll have time to work ten hours a day and maybe catch up on some blogs.  Then, New Year’s Eve morning, I’ll pick Leigh-Ann up at the airport for our snacky New Year’s...and we’ll open up presents from friends and Secret Santas and some gifties from each other.
