David Blaine

US illusionist David Blaine, who has been submerged since Monday in a water-filled sphere in downtown New York, is growing weak and will receive medical attention over the weekend, his spokesman said.

Why does anyone care?

Our For Real Swimming Pool

Jess, c’mon over.

P1010012

This is, of course, before our neighbor built a huge garage in his back yard, and before they built a bunch of houses behind us.  So the view is a little less than it was.  Sad, really.

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Anyone get the plate number of the bus that hit me yesterday?  Last night was a super painful night, and today I feel like I’m bruised all over.  My thighs and hips just ache.  Ptooey!  I don’t even have anything interesting to write (I still need to write my “day of” surgery post, just for people who keep finding my blog for herniated disc search terms), as all I’ve done is watch tv, read, sleep, etc.  Although, we did go out on Tuesday.  My big trip out in the car, to drive one block to the grocery store and Starbucks.  We desperately needed chlorine for the pool (a dark green pool is bad, right?), so Leigh-Ann and I took a little trip out.  Except for feeling a bit queasy in the check-out line (it was warm in the store), I did okay.  It hurts my back to sit in the car, but only because the seat pushes against my incision.  I took a pillow, so it was a softer push against the incision, but it still didn’t feel very good.  But, it was only a block to the store, so it wasn’t horrible.  It was kind of weird being out in the world and actually seeing other people.  Plus, everyone moves so fast in the grocery store, as if they didn’t have surgery and weren’t worried about running into people.  Hrumph.

Weird Things That Are Difficult After Back Surgery

* Spitting in the sink after brushing your teeth (no bending at the waist)
* Getting soap out of your butt in the shower (mustn’t have the water hitting your back)
* Picking things up after you drop them (seems to happen more often now than before surgery)
* Giving eyedrops to Phoenix (can’t bend down that far)
* Pouring Keno’s gross water (she likes to put her food in her water dish) into the toilet (no bending, and squatting puts you in the “I’m gonna be sick” position)
* Can’t shave my legs - YUK! (again, no bending...or having the water hit your back)
